Media Coverage of the Fylde Coast Ramblers

I was approached by Anne-Marie Wharton of The Lytham St.Annes Express to contribute a suitable walk for publication. This finally appeared in the Evening Gazette as a pull-out supplement entitled "Fylde and Wyre Rural Life - Autumn 2005".

Scorton Circular Walk (6.5 miles)

Directions
1. Leave Scorton in a Northerly direction using the B road towards Scorton Picnic site.
2. Keeping to right hand side of the road for safety, walk along until you come to a footpath sign on the left, marked "Cleveley Bridge". Take this path. Cross a footbridge and bear right.
3. Go over a stile and a footbridge. To your left you will see Scorton Lake and Cleveley Mere. (This section may be muddy, depending on the time of year). Keep going until you cross another stile and then a step through stile.
4. Now you come to a wide grit road. Turn right and carry on North.
5. Eventually you will come to a tarmac surfaced road, with Scorton Picnic Site to your right. However we go left over the bridge. Then turn right at the footpath sign marked "Nan's Nook" to follow the river on the other bank.
6. After a while we leave the woodland path, crossing a stile and a field. Keep the ditch to your left and you will almost touch the M6 fencing. Follow the fencing up a little way to the footbridge, and turn left to cross the open field. Over the other side of the field you will see a metal gate. This is usually chained up and the stile to exit this field is a few yards to the left and can be hard to find.
7. Now we join a tarmac surfaced road. Turn left and walk along, then left again into Millers Brow by the church. Keep walking on this road passed Shireshead Cottage. Keep Left, ignoring Richmond Hill Lane.
8. At this junction you will see to the left the JC Country shop and café (well worth a visit). After this we go right down Cleveley Bank Lane. Continue over the main railway line and turn left down another B road.
9. Ignor the playground area at the back of the New Holly pub, and take the lane to your right down to the A6 raod. Cross the road with care. Go across the layby and use the stile to enter the field. Continue across 2 fields and exit onto a tarmac surfaced lane.
10. Turn left and walk up to the "T" junction. Turn right and walk along the road to the canal bridge.
11. Go over the bridge and walk along the canal towpath to your left going South. Continue along the towpath until you arrive at bridge number 73. Just before this bridge is a small gate to your right. Take that, go across the bridge down a short lane (by Greaves Farm Caravan Site) and turn right onto a tarmac surfaced road.
12. Walk along this road until you find almost hidden on your left a Bridleway sign. Take this route which will take you across the A6 again (please be careful of the traffic).
13. Go into Weavers Lane and up the hill into Claylands Caravan Park. Passing by reception on your left you will see a sign for "Stepping Stones Bar". Go around the building to the right of this sign and down the steps to the footbridge over the river.
14. From the footbridge go straight ahead to the railway line. Bear right then left to pass under the railway by a tunnel. Go over the stile, across the field. Cross 2 small stiles and you are back on the main road, with Scorton Village to your left and journeys end.

As the map reproduction is not great, I have included the orginal here.
